A 44 year old woman in Nagpur has accused a man she met on Shaadi.com of having physical relations with her on the pretext of marriage before refusing to wed her.

A case has come to light in the Beltarodi police station area of Nagpur in which an acquaintance made on Shaadi.com turned into a relationship and then into a promise of marriage. A 44 year old woman has filed a police complaint alleging that the accused had physical relations with her several times after promising to marry her, but later backed out of the marriage. On receiving the woman's complaint, Beltarodi police registered a case and arrested the accused.

According to police, the two got acquainted through Shaadi.com in 2022. Conversations between them gradually grew and a romantic relationship developed. In her complaint, the woman said that on 30 July 2022, the accused, Rajesh Goswami, took her to his home in Manishnagar. The accused is said to originally be from Himachal Pradesh. The woman has alleged that on the same day, the accused had physical relations with her after promising marriage.

In her complaint, the woman said the matter did not end there. The accused continued to promise marriage and had physical relations with her several more times during this period. After some time, the accused allegedly refused outright to marry her. According to police, the accused works as a cook at a guest house, while the complainant had been living separately from her husband.

Based on the woman's complaint, Beltarodi police registered a case under the relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Police then arrested the accused, Rajesh Goswami. Police are now investigating all the allegations made by the woman in detail. Evidence of the conversations between the two and other related facts are also being examined. Police said further investigation into the case is ongoing and action will be taken after considering all aspects.
