Nagpur man kills wife with axe over drinking dispute, arrested

A woman was killed with an axe on Friday morning in the Mankapur police station area of Nagpur. The incident took place at a residential complex behind Aarti Town in Godhani following a domestic dispute. Police said 30-year-old Shivkumar Ramesh Barkhade attacked his 26-year-old wife Savita Barkhade with an axe, inflicting injuries so severe that she died on the spot.

Police said Shivkumar originally hails from Seoni in Madhya Pradesh. He was addicted to alcohol, and the couple frequently fought over this issue. On Friday morning around 10:15 am, another argument broke out between the two. During the dispute, Shivkumar picked up an axe kept in the room in anger and attacked Savita. She sustained severe injuries in the attack and died at the scene.

Some time after the incident, Shivkumar's brother arrived at the room and found Savita lying in a pool of blood. He immediately informed the police. A Mankapur police team reached the spot as soon as they received the information. Police first took the accused husband Shivkumar into custody and later arrested him. They also began examining the scene and collecting evidence related to the crime.

After conducting a panchnama of Savita's body, police sent it to the hospital for a post-mortem examination. Necessary evidence is being collected from the scene. Police are also trying to determine the actual cause of the domestic dispute and what transpired between the couple before the incident. Initial information points to alcohol addiction and the resulting arguments as the reason for the incident, but the complete circumstances behind the killing will become clear only after police complete their investigation.

Mankapur police have arrested the accused, Shivkumar Ramesh Barkhade (30), and have begun further investigation into the case. Police are examining the entire matter based on evidence found at the scene and statements of people connected to the case.
