Nagpur swelters in heat and humidity as monsoon returns to Mumbai, Thane
Nagpur logs 32 degrees Celsius while renewed rain disrupts traffic and Ganeshotsav preparations in Mumbai, Thane, Palghar and Raigad
Maharashtra is currently seeing two very different weather patterns. While Nagpur continues to see no let-up in heat and humidity, Mumbai and the surrounding districts have seen the monsoon regain strength.
Rain in Mumbai just ahead of Ganeshotsav has affected the movement of people in the city. The India Meteorological Department had already issued a rain alert for Mumbai, Thane, Palghar and Raigad.
On September 15, 2026, Nagpur recorded a temperature of 32 degrees Celsius. According to the forecast, the city is expected to see a maximum temperature of 32 degrees Celsius and a minimum of around 27 degrees Celsius today. The sun rose at 5:40 am and will set at 6:01 pm. Humidity levels were measured at 90 percent and atmospheric pressure at around 1010.
No major change in Nagpur's temperature is expected in the coming days. Forecast figures for the next six days put the temperature at 32, 32, 32, 32, 31 and 33 degrees Celsius respectively. Due to humidity, people may feel hotter than the actual temperature.
On the positive side, Nagpur's air is currently clean. The city's Air Quality Index was recorded at 43 today, which falls in the good category. PM 2.5 levels stood at 20 and PM 10 at 45. Air quality is currently satisfactory, though people with pre-existing breathing or other health issues should take precautions as needed.
Meanwhile, in Mumbai, rain has picked up pace again after a lull of a few days. Light drizzle began in the city and suburbs from midnight on Sunday and continued as light to moderate rain through the day. Rain is expected to continue on Monday and Tuesday as well. Rainfall has been recorded in areas such as Malabar Hill, Girgaon, Lalbaug, Parel and Dadar.
In terms of figures, Mumbai's city area recorded 43.82 mm of rain, the eastern suburbs 52.28 mm and the western suburbs 59.86 mm. Several parts of Thane, Raigad and Palghar also received substantial rainfall.
Waterlogging in low-lying areas due to the rain has also affected traffic in some places. The rain caused considerable trouble for people doing Ganeshotsav shopping and carrying idols to pandals.
