Weather in Nagpur and its surrounding areas took a sudden turn on the afternoon of September 12, 2026, bringing relief to residents who had been struggling with intense heat and humidity over the preceding days. In the morning, despite high moisture in the air, the heat remained severe, and it seemed unlikely to rain, with people having largely given up hope of monsoon showers.
However, around 2:30 pm, dark clouds suddenly gathered in the sky, and heavy rain began within moments. The rain brought a cool feeling across the city and completely changed the atmosphere.
After the rain, a significant drop in temperature was recorded in Nagpur. The day's maximum temperature had been between 28 and 32 degrees Celsius, but after the afternoon rain it fell to a minimum of 24 degrees Celsius.
This drop of about five degrees gave Nagpur residents direct relief from the scorching heat. The rain, which followed high humidity levels of 77 to 95 percent, filled the city's atmosphere with a pleasant freshness.
This monsoon rain has brought double joy for Nagpur residents, as it comes just as Ganesh Chaturthi, the arrival of Ganpati Bappa, draws near. Devotees and residents busy preparing to welcome Bappa feel that the pleasant weather has doubled the festive excitement.
People who had stepped out for shopping got relief from the harsh sun and sweat. With the coolness spreading through pandals being decorated to welcome Bappa and in homes, the atmosphere across the city has turned cheerful and devotional.
The India Meteorological Department and the Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC Nagpur) have forecast that rain will continue in Nagpur and the entire Vidarbha region for the next five days.
The weather department has issued an orange alert for the region, forecasting heavy rain along with thunder, lightning and winds blowing at 40 to 50 kilometres per hour.
According to the forecast, the sky will remain cloudy throughout the week with intermittent showers. There is a strong possibility of rain later in the week as well, on Friday, which means the coolness in the atmosphere is expected to persist through the week.
