A 39-year-old woman in Nagpur has alleged that a man named Umesh Singh Suryavanshi raped her at the Airport Centre Point hotel on Wardha Road, and recorded an obscene video during the assault. According to the woman, he later demanded Rs 1 lakh using the video and threatened to make it viral. Sonegaon police have registered a case based on her complaint. The accused is currently absconding and police are searching for him.

According to the police complaint, the woman is a resident of Wardha district and works in a government department. She met Umesh Singh Suryavanshi, 40, a resident of Pipri Meghe, in 2023, after which the two became friends.

The woman has alleged that Suryavanshi lured her from Wardha to Nagpur and took her to the Airport Centre Point hotel on Wardha Road. The complaint states that he raped her at the hotel and recorded an obscene video during the assault.

According to the woman, the accused then began blackmailing her using the video, threatening to spread it on social media and demanding Rs 1 lakh.

Harassed by repeated threats, the woman approached the police station, where Sonegaon police registered a case based on her complaint and began an investigation.

The Airport Centre Point on Wardha Road is counted among the well-known hotels in the city. The hotel has previously been in the news over various activities and police cases, including a past police crackdown on gambling there. It has also drawn attention from time to time over parties, spa and massage services. However, whether these past matters have any direct link to the current rape case will only become clear after police investigation.

CCTV footage from the hotel, entry-exit records and other technical evidence could prove significant in this case. Footage from the time of the incident and hotel records could reveal important details of the sequence of events. Police may also examine when the accused and the woman entered and left the hotel, along with other digital evidence linked to the case.

The activities at the Airport Centre Point hotel have been a subject of local discussion in the past as well, with questions raised over gambling, late-night parties and other alleged activities. Whether older police cases linked to the hotel have any connection to the current case could also form part of the investigation. There has also been talk of alleged misuse of the hotel's CCTV footage and blackmailing, though these allegations have not been independently confirmed and no link to the current case has emerged so far.

Sonegaon police have registered a case based on the woman's complaint and begun searching for Umesh Singh Suryavanshi. After his arrest, police will question him and investigate other aspects of the case. The allegations of rape, recording an obscene video and demanding a Rs 1 lakh ransom will be confirmed only on the basis of the investigation and evidence gathered. The complete facts will emerge only after the police investigation is complete.
