Nagpur's NKP Salve Medical College hikes MBBS fee 56% to Rs 21.75 lakh a year
MBBS fees at Nagpur's NKP Salve Institute have jumped weeks after it converted into a private university, taking the five-year course cost to about Rs 1.1 crore.

Students and parents hoping to pursue MBBS at a private medical college in Maharashtra have big news on fees. Weeks after Nagpur's NKP Salve Institute of Medical Sciences converted into a private university, its MBBS fee has been raised by 56 percent. The annual fee, which was Rs 13.95 lakh for the 2025-26 academic session, has now been increased to Rs 21.75 lakh per year.
The new fee structure also provides for a 7.5 percent increase every year. At this rate, the total cost of the full five-year MBBS course will reach around Rs 1.1 crore. The figures have intensified the debate over rising MBBS fees.
Under the new fee structure, tuition and development fees for 40 percent state-quota seats and 45 percent all-India-quota seats will be Rs 20.75 lakh a year. In addition, students will have to pay a separate university fee of Rs 1 lakh every year. A refundable security deposit of Rs 5 lakh will also be collected. The annual fee for NRI and OCI students has been fixed at 46,650 US dollars. For students admitted under the institutional quota, the fee will be Rs 43 lakh per year.
NKP Salve Institute has a total of 250 MBBS seats. Because the conversion to a private university is under way, these seats had not so far been included in the central medical admission process. According to an official of the Maharashtra CET Cell, the temporary seat matrix for the second round of medical admissions has been released, and the college will be included in the final seat matrix.
Fees have also risen at Nagpur's Ranjit Deshmukh Dental College and Research Centre, which is part of the same new private university. Its annual fee has been increased from Rs 4.75 lakh to Rs 5.85 lakh. The Maharashtra government had approved the conversion of three education institutions into a private university in the last week of August. These are Dr Vitthalrao Vikhe Patil Foundation Medical College in Ahilyanagar, NKP Salve Institute of Medical Sciences in Nagpur, and Ranjit Deshmukh Dental College and Research Centre.
Commenting on the fee hike, medical education expert Brijesh Sutaria said such high fees are a huge financial burden for middle-class families. He advised parents to work out the fees and other costs for the full five and a half years of the course before selecting a college option during NEET UG counselling.
