Nagpur: Man with covered face robs bank of Rs 4.53 lakh using chilli powder

A shocking robbery took place at a State Bank of India branch in Nagpur's Sakkardara area on Friday evening. According to police, the accused, 28-year-old Suraj Borkar, entered the bank and suddenly began throwing chilli powder at the staff. Before employees could react, he fled with about Rs 4.53 lakh in cash.
The entire incident was recorded on the bank's CCTV cameras. According to the footage, the accused had covered his face with a white cloth and entered the bank carrying a green packet. Once inside, he began throwing chilli powder at the staff and kept chasing them while repeatedly throwing the powder, causing panic inside the bank.
Taking advantage of the chaos, the accused jumped over the counter, grabbed a portion of the cash and quickly fled. The CCTV footage also showed some staff members chasing him, but he managed to escape from the spot.
Police began investigating as soon as they received news of the robbery. Along with the bank's CCTV footage, recordings from cameras in the surrounding areas were also examined. Based on the footage and other leads, police identified the accused and arrested Suraj Borkar within a few hours.
During questioning, it emerged that the accused was facing financial difficulties. He had lost about Rs 5 lakh in the stock market, after which he fell into debt. Police said it was this financial pressure that led him to plan the robbery.
The biggest question before police now is whether Suraj Borkar carried out the robbery alone or had help from someone else. Police are questioning the accused with this in mind, and are also examining his financial transactions, debts and old contacts to determine whether a larger network or accomplice was involved. Information about the accused's activities before and after the robbery is also being gathered.
CCTV footage proved to be a crucial lead for police in the Sakkardara bank robbery. With the accused arrested within hours, the investigation is now focused on uncovering the full plan and any possible accomplices.
