Nagpur man held with 12.65 grams of MD drug in Buddhanagar
Police in Nagpur arrested a 23-year-old man carrying MD powder worth about Rs 93,450, with two associates still on the run.
Nagpur's crime branch anti-narcotics team has been carrying out raids continuously to stop the smuggling and sale of drugs in the city. As part of this drive, police raided the Buddhanagar area under Panchpaoli police station limits and caught a young man with 12.650 grams of MD powder.
Along with the MD powder, police recovered a mobile phone, an electronic weighing scale and a moped from the accused. The total value of the seized items has been estimated at around Rs 93,450. Two more people have been named in the case and are said to be absconding.
According to police, the anti-narcotics team was patrolling the Buddhanagar area between around 12.20 am and 2.10 am on Sunday night when it received information that drugs were being sold in the area. Acting on the tip-off, police stepped up surveillance outside the house of Pritamsingh Thakur and waited after growing suspicious.
A short while later, a young man arrived there on a Maestro moped. His movements appeared suspicious, so the police team surrounded and caught him. During questioning, he was identified as Anurag Ramteke (23). Police said Anurag was living on rent at Khobragade's house in Buddhanagar.
On searching him, police found 12 grams 650 milligrams of MD powder kept in a ziplock pouch. Police then seized the drugs and arrested Anurag. A mobile phone, an electronic weighing scale and the Maestro moped were also recovered from him.
During initial questioning, Anurag reportedly told police that he had brought the MD powder from his associates to sell. The names of Javed Khan (30), a resident of Hasanbag, and Chanda Thakur, a resident of Shantinagar, have come up during the investigation. Police are probing the role of both and are searching for them.
Panchpaoli police have registered a case against the accused under relevant sections of the NDPS Act. Police are questioning the arrested accused to find out where the MD powder was sourced from, who it was meant to be supplied to, and who else is involved in the network.
Following this action by the anti-narcotics team, police are now investigating the source of the seized MD powder and its supply network. Along with searching for the absconding accused, police are also trying to find out how many more people are active in this network. The action was carried out by Inspector Bharat Kshirsagar and his team under the guidance of DCP Deepak Agrawal and ACP Vaibhav Jadhav.
