Mahindra Thar facelift set for launch with cosmetic and feature updates

Mahindra is preparing to launch an updated version of its popular Thar 3-Door SUV, with the new model expected to arrive by the end of September. The company has not officially announced a launch date, but the updated Thar has been the subject of speculation for some time.

The Thar currently on sale largely retains the look it had at its original 2020 launch. The new model will get cosmetic changes to make it look more attractive and modern.

On the exterior, the new Thar is expected to get redesigned bumpers, new headlamps and a five-slot grille. It may also come with new five-double-spoke alloy wheels.

Inside, the cabin is set to become more premium, with features such as a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, ventilated seats, a wireless smartphone charger and passive keyless entry. New upholstery is also expected.

There will be no changes to the engines. The updated model will retain the same three engine options as before: a 1.5-litre diesel engine producing 117 hp and 300 Nm of torque, a 2.2-litre diesel engine producing 130 hp and 300 Nm of torque, and a 2.0-litre petrol engine producing 150 hp and 300 Nm of torque. All these options will come with 6-speed manual and 6-speed automatic transmissions. The all-wheel drive (AWD) experience will remain unchanged.

The SUV has recently been spotted testing on Indian roads. The new 3-door Thar facelift shows a clear influence of the recently launched Thar Roxx, with several elements, from lighting to the large touchscreen infotainment system on the dashboard, expected to resemble the Roxx.
