The craze for SUVs in India's automobile market keeps growing, and Mahindra & Mahindra is back in the spotlight because of its upcoming compact SUV, the Mahindra Vision S. The car was recently spotted testing on the road with heavy camouflage. Fresh spy shots have revealed several details of its production-ready design. The SUV could be positioned between the XUV 3XO and the Scorpio in the company's lineup.
According to available information, the car will be based on the "Freedom-NU" modular platform and will support petrol, diesel, hybrid and electric powertrains. An AdBlue filler cap was clearly visible on the car during testing, confirming the diesel powertrain.
Its boxy shape, upright bonnet and squared-off LED headlamps give the SUV a rugged look similar to a "mini Defender" or "baby Scorpio". Based on the concept, it is expected to get 277 mm of ground clearance and a 2665 mm wheelbase. A full-size spare wheel mounted on the rear door further highlights its off-road character.
On engine options, the SUV will get a 1.2-litre turbo petrol engine expected to deliver a mileage of around 16 to 18 kmpl. It will also get a 1.5-litre diesel engine with both manual and automatic options, expected to deliver a mileage of around 20 to 22 kmpl. Hybrid and EV variants could be added later.
The cabin is expected to feature dual digital screens, protruding AC vents, a panoramic sunroof, a three-spoke steering wheel and a flat floor with 60:40 split rear seats. For safety, it could get Level 2 ADAS, multiple airbags, a 360-degree camera and a reinforced body structure.
Mahindra could launch this series in 2027. The base variant's starting price is expected to stay under Rs 10 lakh, while the top-spec variant could be priced between Rs 17 lakh and Rs 22 lakh (ex-showroom).
