Heavy rain alert for Maharashtra on Sept 14 and 15, warning of lightning and strong winds
The weather department has forecast heavy to extremely heavy rain, lightning and winds of 40 to 50 km/h in parts of Maharashtra over the next two days.

The Meteorological Department has forecast a risk of heavy to extremely heavy rain in Maharashtra on September 14 and 15, 2026. Some parts of north Konkan and north-central Maharashtra are expected to see lightning along with winds of 40 to 50 km per hour and extremely heavy rain.
The heaviest rain and the strongest warnings are for parts of north Konkan and north-central Maharashtra. Some districts of Marathwada may see lightning, winds of 40 to 50 km per hour and heavy rain. A yellow alert has been issued for Palghar, Thane, Nandurbar, the Nashik ghat area, Akola, Amravati, Buldhana and Nagpur.
On September 14, rain is expected at most places in Konkan, with strong winds likely along the north coastal area. Several places in central Maharashtra are also expected to get rain, with thunder, lightning and strong winds in some areas. Marathwada may see rain at some places, with thunder, lightning and strong winds in parts of the region. Vidarbha may see rain at some places.
On September 15, rain is again expected at most places in Konkan. Strong winds are expected along the north coastal part of central Maharashtra. Marathwada may see rain at many places and in some areas. Vidarbha may see isolated rain.
People have been advised not to stand under trees or in open spaces during lightning. Caution has been advised while travelling in coastal areas and ghats because of heavy rain and stormy winds. Farmers have been asked to secure crops that are ready for harvest. Administration and emergency services have been put on alert in districts under the yellow alert.
The ongoing rain in Marathwada, north Maharashtra and Vidarbha could affect kharif crops such as soybean, cotton and maize. Farmers have been advised to ensure immediate drainage of waterlogged fields and to move harvest-ready crops to a safe place. Lightning strikes could increase with winds of 40 to 50 km per hour, so people have been advised not to stop in open fields, farmland or under large trees, and to avoid using metal objects or mobile phones during the storm.
