Maharashtra weather: Rain likely in Konkan, central regions; rest to stay mostly dry
IMD says light rain may continue in parts of Konkan and central Maharashtra, while heat and humidity rise elsewhere as heavy rains ease.
Maharashtra has got some relief from heavy rain for now, but a shift in weather conditions means light drizzle could still continue in some areas. According to the Meteorological Department, light rain is likely today in parts of Konkan and central Maharashtra. The rest of the state will remain mostly clear with a mix of sun and clouds. With the rain easing, heat and humidity have also risen considerably.
On the weather systems at play, a low-pressure area is currently active over southwest Rajasthan and the Kutch region, with an associated cyclonic circulation extending up to 7.6 km above sea level. The monsoon trough, the low-pressure belt, has shifted southward. This system stretches through Udaipur, Raisen, Pendra Road, Ranchi and Digha up to the northwest Bay of Bengal. In addition, cyclonic winds are also blowing at a height of 1.5 to 5.8 km above sea level near the coasts of Odisha and West Bengal.
With the low-pressure area shifting towards Rajasthan, the intensity of rain in Maharashtra has reduced. On Tuesday, Solapur recorded the state's highest temperature at 34.5 degrees Celsius, while Mahabaleshwar recorded the lowest at 16.6 degrees Celsius. In the 24 hours up to 8:30 am, 30 mm of rain was recorded in Mandangad in Ratnagiri, Sudhagad, Shrivardhan and Roha in Raigad, as well as in Lonavala and Chandwad.
Here is how the weather is expected to be in different regions today. In Konkan, light rain is likely at some places in Palghar, Thane, Mumbai, Ratnagiri and Raigad districts. In north Maharashtra, light rain is expected in Dhule, Nandurbar, Jalgaon, Ahilyanagar and Nashik districts, while the ghat areas of Nashik could see light to moderate rain.
In western Maharashtra, light drizzle is expected in Pune, Kolhapur, Satara, Sangli and Solapur districts. Moderate rain is likely in the ghat areas of Pune and Satara, while the Kolhapur ghats could see light rain. In Marathwada, light rain is expected in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Jalna, Beed and Dharashiv districts, while weather will remain mostly dry in Hingoli, Nanded, Parbhani and Latur districts.
As for Vidarbha, the Meteorological Department has not issued any alert for Akola, Amravati, Bhandara, Buldhana, Chandrapur, Wardha, Washim, Yavatmal, Gadchiroli and Gondia districts.
