A startling incident has come to light from Mumbai. Parag Shah, the BJP MLA from Ghatkopar East, was seen begging with a bowl in hand on the streets of Mumbai, even though he is in reality the owner of assets worth crores of rupees. Parag Shah's total assets are estimated at around Rs 5,000 crore. He has access to every comfort that money can buy, yet he was seen roaming the streets of Mumbai for hours disguised as a beggar. During this time, watchmen sometimes shooed him away, while passersby looked at him strangely, and he endured all this for hours in the scorching sun.
This act by Maharashtra's richest MLA has become a talking point on social media. The question being asked is why, despite having so much fame and wealth, he had to take to the streets disguised as a beggar.
According to the report, Parag Shah took this step on the advice of his spiritual guru, Namramuni Maharaj. During the Jain Chaturmas period, the guru told Parag Shah to live as a beggar for one day so that he could personally experience the difficulties ordinary people face in everyday life.
Following his guru's instruction, Parag Shah set aside all his comforts. He had himself made up to look like a beggar and went out onto the streets of Ghatkopar. During this time he begged on the street, ate there as well, and closely felt what real suffering and humiliation a beggar's life involves.
BJP MLA Parag Shah is also a major real estate businessman. He owns a company called Man Infraconstruction Limited, of which he is the CEO. It is estimated that the total market value of his companies exceeds Rs 5,000 crore.
In addition, he owns several commercial and residential properties in posh areas of Mumbai such as Ghatkopar, Chembur and Thane. He also has a large real estate portfolio spread across Maharashtra, Gujarat and Uttar Pradesh. In 2017, when he contested the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation election, his assets were valued at around Rs 690 crore. As his business grew, his total assets also kept increasing.
