Nagpur man alleges assault, casteist abuse, death threat; no FIR two days on
A Nagpur man says he was assaulted, abused with casteist slurs and threatened with death, but police had not filed an FIR two days later

A serious case has come to light in the area of Kapilnagar police station in Nagpur, involving allegations of assault, casteist abuse, an attempt to strangle and kill, threats, and an attempt to forcibly push the victim into a vehicle. The complainant, Aniket Ganveer, says that two days after the incident, police had still not registered an FIR, which is why he approached the police himself.
According to Ganveer's complaint, some people first picked a fight with him and hurled abuses. He alleges casteist remarks were made during this. He also says he was beaten and that an attempt was made to strangle and kill him.
Ganveer has further alleged that the accused threatened him and tried to force him into a vehicle. The incident led to tension in the area for some time.
After the incident, Ganveer approached the police and demanded strict action against those named in his complaint. He has demanded that a case be registered under the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act along with other applicable legal provisions. He has also demanded a medical examination and a check of CCTV footage from around the site to establish what exactly happened.
Ganveer's claim that no case had been registered two days after the incident raises questions about the pace of police action.
Police said the matter is under investigation and further legal action will be taken based on the evidence that emerges.
