Truck rams four vehicles on Pune-Bengaluru highway, two dead, twelve hurt

A speeding truck lost control and rammed an Eicher tempo from behind at the Jambhulwadi valley bridge on the Pune-Bengaluru highway around midnight on Sunday (September 13), setting off a crash involving four vehicles in all. The accident took place in front of Laxmi Lodge.

Police said the truck was travelling from Satara towards Pune. Near the Jambhulwadi bridge, the driver lost control and hit another truck ahead of it from behind. The impact pushed both trucks out of the Mumbai-bound lane and into the opposite lane, where vehicles were coming from Mumbai towards Satara. The trucks then collided with two cars travelling in that lane. All four vehicles were badly damaged, and the drivers and passengers in them were seriously injured.

Hrudaynath Mohan Gaikwad, 47, and Anandibai Ramchandra Wadkar, 50, died during treatment. Gaikwad lived near Meghwadi police station in the Jogeshwari East area of Mumbai, while Wadkar was a resident of Sector Nerul in Navi Mumbai.

Twelve people in all were injured in the accident, three of them said to be in serious condition. The injured were rushed to Bharati Hospital, Morya Hospital, Silver Birch Hospital and Shreyas Hospital, where they are being treated. A large crowd gathered at the spot soon after the accident. Police began relief and rescue work immediately and restored the flow of traffic.

A case, number 392/2026, has been registered at Ambegaon police station. Action has been taken under sections 105 and 125(a) and (b) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, along with sections 184, 177/119 and 134(a) and (b) of the Motor Vehicles Act. Police have taken the truck driver, Pramod Wagh, and the truck owner, Sandeep Gorakh Suryavanshi, 45, a resident of Khatav in Satara district, into custody.
