Engineering admissions: 1.52 lakh get seats in state after round four, computer science tops choice
After four rounds of Maharashtra's engineering admission process, 1.52 lakh of 2.03 lakh seats have been filled, with computer engineering the most sought branch.
Four rounds of this year's engineering admission process in the state have now been completed. The Maharashtra State Common Entrance Test Cell ran the process for the academic year 2026-27. Of the total 2,03,293 engineering seats in these four rounds, 1,52,452 students, or 74.99 percent, have been admitted.
Online registration for admissions this year began on July 2 and closed on July 19. During this period, 2,45,646 students from across the state registered. A total of 111 courses are available across 380 engineering colleges in the state, with 2,18,976 seats including the management quota. Of the 2,03,293 seats open for the admission process, 1,52,452 students had confirmed admission by the end of the fourth round, across 380 colleges under 17 universities in the state and 111 different branches.
After the CAP rounds, admissions under the institutional round and the management round are now underway and will continue till September 14. Of the seats left vacant after CAP, 50,841 are available for the institutional round, while 15,683 seats are vacant under the management quota.
Branch-wise, computer engineering has again proved the most popular choice among students this year, with 23,230 students taking admission in this branch. This was followed by mechanical engineering with 16,918, electronics and telecommunication engineering with 15,971, computer science and engineering with 15,787, information technology with 12,494, civil engineering with 12,095 and electrical engineering with 10,192 admissions. In addition, artificial intelligence and data science recorded 8,816 admissions, computer science and engineering (artificial intelligence and machine learning) recorded 5,480, and artificial intelligence and machine learning recorded 3,936 admissions.
University-wise, the CET Cell handles admissions to engineering colleges under 17 public universities in the state. Colleges under Savitribai Phule Pune University in Pune recorded the highest number of admissions at 53,973. This was followed by Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Technological University in Lonere with 30,909, University of Mumbai with 25,358, Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University in Nagpur with 14,024, and Shivaji University in Kolhapur with 8,416 admissions.
District-wise too, Pune district ranks first. Engineering colleges in Pune district recorded 41,122 admissions. This was followed by Nagpur district with 15,487, Nashik district with 10,570, Kolhapur district with 9,669 and Mumbai suburban district with 9,012 admissions confirmed.
