The three-match T20 International series between India and Afghanistan begins on September 13. All three matches will be played at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi, with Afghanistan hosting the series. This will be Team India's first home T20 series under Shreyas Iyer's captaincy after winning the 2026 T20 World Cup. Notably, of the three T20 series played under Iyer's captaincy so far, India have won only one, making this series an important one for the team.
In T20 Internationals, India have never lost to Afghanistan. The two sides have played a total of 9 T20Is, of which India have won 8 and one match was abandoned. The head-to-head record is heavily in India's favour. However, Afghanistan have shown strong form in the T20 format in recent years and have beaten major teams, so winning every match of this series will not be an easy task for captain Shreyas Iyer.
India have played three T20Is against Afghanistan on home soil so far and won all three. The last T20 match played against Afghanistan in India was at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru in early 2024. That match ended in a tie, with India winning after two Super Overs.
