23-year-old held with illegal pistol, cartridge in Gittikhadan

The anti-narcotics squad of the crime branch has acted against a 23-year-old man for possessing illegal weapons in the Gittikhadan police station area of Nagpur. Police received a tip-off that a young man was roaming with an illegal firearm near Durgamata Mandir, behind Ramdev Baba Tekdi, in the Yogendra Nagar area. Acting on this information, a police team reached the spot.

In the presence of two witnesses, police searched the suspect. The search led to the recovery of a country-made firearm, or katta, valued at around Rs 25,000. Police also seized one live cartridge from him.

During the search, an iPhone 13 mobile phone worth around Rs 50,000 was also found on the accused. In all, police seized goods worth around Rs 76,000, including the pistol, the cartridge and the mobile phone.

Police identified the accused as Aman Gupta, 23. The accused and all the seized items have been handed over to the Gittikhadan police station for further legal action.

A case has been registered against Aman Gupta under relevant sections of the Arms Act. Police are now trying to establish where and how the accused obtained the country-made pistol, and whether anyone else is involved. The investigation is ongoing.
