Pune man duped of Rs 4.11 lakh by fake part-time job offer

A man in Pune has been cheated of Rs 4 lakh 11 thousand 950 in the name of a part-time job. Fraud cases are rising every day across Maharashtra and the country, with cyber fraudsters siphoning off lakhs of rupees from people daily. Another incident following this pattern has now come to light, in which fraudsters cleverly trapped a man in their scheme.

The complainant was contacted on his mobile with information about a part-time job. He was first added to a Telegram group and asked to download an app from there. He was told that if he completed the tasks given on the app, he would earn good profits. To build his trust, some money was initially credited to the complainant's account. This made him believe the transactions were genuine, and he decided to go ahead.

He was then asked to deposit more money to earn higher profits and complete further tasks. During this, the complainant received some returns, which strengthened his trust in the people on the other side. Using different excuses, he was gradually made to deposit more money, and each time he was assured that his profits would be returned soon.

In the end, he never received the returns he was expecting. Excluding the amount he had already received as returns, the complainant realised later that he had lost a total of Rs 4 lakh 11 thousand 950. As soon as he realised he had been defrauded, he went straight to the police station and filed a complaint.

Based on the complaint by the 40 year old man, a case was registered on September 14, 2026 under sections 319(2) and 318(4) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and section 66(D) of the IT Act. Police are now tracing the mobile number used, the Telegram group, the app involved, and the owners of the bank accounts into which the money was deposited.

Police have appealed to people to be careful and not fall for such traps if anyone asks them to deposit money to complete tasks in the name of a part-time job.
