Fans across the country have decorated Ganeshotsav pandals inspired by the horror film Tumbbad, and the photos are going viral.

Its unusual story, eerie atmosphere, strong performances and striking visuals have earned it a large cult following not just in India but abroad as well. "Tumbbad" is no longer just a film for its fans, it has become an entire cult franchise. This Ganeshotsav, a new example of the film's popularity has come to light.
On the occasion of Ganesh Chaturthi, Ganpati pandals decorated in the theme of "Tumbbad" have come up at several places across the country. Photos and videos of these pandals are going viral on social media. Fans have shown their creativity by bringing the film's eerie world into their Ganeshotsav decorations.
These pandals feature decorations inspired by the film's famous "Hastar" character. Red-hued eerie walls, an idol of a goddess holding what looks like a vessel at the entrance, and a frightening setting created behind the Ganesh idol are drawing attention. At some places, spooky corridors and set-like structures reminiscent of the world of "Tumbbad" have also been created.
Released in 2018, "Tumbbad" gradually built a large fan base thanks to its folklore-based story and distinctive style. Notably, when the film was re-released in 2024, the audience response was even more overwhelming than before. After the re-release, "Tumbbad" earned strongly at the box office, drawing more viewers to theatres than its original release had.
This success made it clear that the film's popularity is not limited to its old fans, the craze for "Tumbbad" remains just as strong among the new generation.
Meanwhile, fans are also eagerly awaiting the upcoming sequel to "Tumbbad." Discussion around the film intensified after Nawazuddin Siddiqui's entry into "Tumbbad 2" was announced. Now, reports say actress Alia Bhatt will also be seen in an important role in the film. Actor-producer Soham Shah had announced this major casting in July. This means Soham Shah, Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Alia Bhatt will all appear together in the next instalment of this much-awaited franchise.
