EPFO passbook: PF deducted from salary but not credited? Here is how to check

Every month when your salary is credited, the salary slip shows that PF has been deducted from your pay. The slip clearly states how much money was deducted from the salary and that it was deposited into your PF account. But the real question is whether the amount being deducted is actually being credited to your PF account, something most people never check.

Most people never check their PF passbook. Everyone assumes that the amount deducted from their salary is automatically credited to their PF account every month. But this does not always happen. So, to avoid problems later, it is important to check your PF passbook from time to time. Here is how to check this passbook from home.

First, understand what to look for while checking the passbook. Check whether an entry is being made every month. For example, if you are checking the passbook in September, check whether the PF balance for August has been recorded. You should check not just your own contribution, but also the company's contribution and the pension fund balance.

There are three easy ways to check your PF passbook. The first is the official EPFO website, where you log in using your UAN and password, then select the member ID to view the passbook. The second method is Passbook Lite, where the deposited amount, withdrawn amount and balance can all be seen in one place. The third method is the UMANG app, which can be downloaded on your phone to quickly check the passbook and balance.

People who have changed jobs several times may have different member IDs under the same UAN. In such cases, select the ID of the company whose information you need.

If the PF has not been deposited, first check your salary slip again, and wait a few days since entries can take time to appear. If the entry still does not show up, contact your company's HR department immediately and file a complaint.
