MP Srikant Shinde to pursue Master's at LSE, which gave Ambedkar his doctorate

Dr Srikant Shinde, the Kalyan MP and leader of the Shiv Sena's parliamentary party, is set to pursue a Master's degree at the London School of Economics, the institution that had honoured Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar, the architect of the Constitution, with a doctorate.

On the first day of his course, Dr Shinde visited the statue of Dr Ambedkar on the LSE campus and paid tribute to him before beginning his studies. On the occasion, he resolved to use the knowledge and experience gained from the course for the benefit of Maharashtra and the country.

Dr Shinde said he kept recalling Dr Ambedkar's words that education is the milk of a lioness, and whoever drinks it will roar. He said that standing in front of Babasaheb's statue helped him understand the meaning of this more deeply.

Dr Shinde said that standing there, he felt proud not as a Member of Parliament from Maharashtra but first as a student. He said the moment made him realise how far thought and intent can carry a person.

According to Dr Shinde, this is his second postgraduate degree. After completing his M.S. in Orthopaedics, medical science taught him how to treat patients; he has now chosen this course to understand how to deal with complex economic questions and policies.

He clarified that although the field is different, his curiosity to learn and know remains the same. He also expressed happiness that he would once again experience lectures, group discussions and the routine of college days. He said he is keen to use this education for the development of Maharashtra and the country.

Dr Shinde also had a message for young people, saying one should never think that learning is over once a degree, job or position has been attained. He cited Dr Ambedkar's view that the ultimate purpose of a person's existence should be to sharpen their mind. He also advised the "Gen Z" generation that the world is changing fast, so they should stay curious and keep learning.
