With Diwali and the festive season approaching, India's automobile market is seeing major activity. Big companies such as Maruti Suzuki, Tata, Mahindra and Hyundai are preparing to launch new avatars and new models of their popular cars.

This time it will not be minor tweaks but cars with new safety features, updated variants and new body styles. The companies have not yet announced official prices or launch dates, but these five much-awaited cars could arrive in the market around Diwali 2026.

First is the Tata Safari EV. This will be Tata's first 3-row electric SUV and is expected to launch during Diwali. It is built on the same Acti.ev+ platform as the Harrier EV. It may come with 65kWh and 75kWh battery options offering a range of about 600 kilometres on a single charge. It could be priced between Rs 23 lakh and Rs 30 lakh and would compete directly with the Mahindra XEV 9S.

The second car is the Mahindra Thar facelift. According to leaked photos, the 3-door Thar's front design will be inspired by the Thar Roxx, with a similar grille and round LED headlights. The new Thar could get a 360-degree camera, rear disc brakes and a more feature-laden cabin. However, engine options are expected to remain the same as before.

Third is the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara facelift. Its new model, expected during the festive season, could get Level 2 ADAS, a powered tailgate and an underbody-mounted CNG tank to increase boot space. This would address the features it lacked compared to rivals like the Creta and Seltos.

The fourth car is the Hyundai Venue. Spotted during testing in India, the Hyundai Venue appears larger and boxier than the model sold in Europe. It will be positioned between the Venue and the next-generation Creta. It is likely to get Level 2 ADAS and a company-fitted CNG option, and could launch during the festive season.

The fifth and final entry is special editions of the Tata Sierra. Alongside this major round of launches, Tata is also planning visually distinctive special editions of the Sierra and Sierra EV for the festive season. Their basic mechanicals will not change, but buyers will get the option of a car with a different look.

Whether all these cars launch on schedule or get delayed to early 2027 depending on production stages will become clear in the coming weeks. But those planning to buy a new car may benefit from waiting a few days.
