A shocking case has come to light in the Sarup Nagar area of Delhi. A 16-year-old girl who had left home to meet a friend was gang-raped and murdered. Her body was found on September 13 in an empty field near Kushak Road. Police examined footage from more than 50 CCTV cameras during the investigation and arrested four people within just 72 hours, including three minor boys.
The police investigation found that the victim had dropped out of school and was looking for a job to help support her family. She knew a 17-year-old boy and had stepped out that day to meet him. According to police, the investigation also revealed that this boy had called over his other friends. Police say all four are accused of raping the girl, after which she was murdered and her body dumped in the vacant field. A 19-year-old, Shivam alias Sudama, has been arrested in the case, while three minors aged 16 and 17 have been taken into custody.
Police received information about the body being found in the field near Kushak Road on the morning of September 13. With no eyewitnesses at the scene, identifying the body was initially difficult for police. Medical and forensic examination confirmed that the girl had been raped. A case was then registered under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the POCSO Act for murder, destruction of evidence and the rape of a minor.
With no eyewitnesses at the scene, police scanned footage from more than 50 CCTV cameras in the area and on nearby roads. The footage showed a tempo that came under suspicion around the time of the incident. Its number plate was not clearly visible initially because of darkness, but police tracked the tempo and traced it to the Khadda Colony area, which gave the investigation a clear direction. According to officers, questioning the tempo driver led police to the suspects. During the investigation, two knives and clothes allegedly used by the accused were also seized. Police are continuing their investigation into the exact role of each accused and the full sequence of events.
