A property dealer in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar turned to selling drugs after his real estate business failed to bring in enough money, and was caught by police. The Anti-Narcotics Squad laid a trap in the Naralibag area and detained Nadeem Ibrahim Shaikh, 40, a resident of Ganesh Colony. Police seized 51 grams and 29 milligrams of MD, or mephedrone, from him, valued at Rs 2 lakh 53 thousand 870.

Police had already received a tip-off that drugs were being sold in the area. Acting on this, the squad laid a trap in Naralibag on the night of Thursday, September 17. At around 10 pm, Nadeem Shaikh was seen behaving suspiciously. When police searched him, they found the stock of MD on him and detained him on the spot.

The investigation also revealed that Nadeem Shaikh is a graduate who was running a property dealing business. But since it was not yielding the expected profit, he turned to selling drugs. He reportedly told police that he himself consumed MD and had been active in this business for the past five to six months.

During questioning, Nadeem Shaikh admitted that he had brought this stock of MD from Zakir Zaveri in the Bandra area of Mumbai. This has brought Zakir Zaveri's involvement in the case to light as well. Police are now investigating who else, besides the MD supplier, is part of this network, raising the possibility that the action could expose a larger drug supply network.

Nadeem Shaikh had a criminal case against him before as well. About a year and a half to two years ago, a fraud case was registered against him at City Chowk police station for allegedly selling property by setting up an impersonator. The same man linked to the property business has now also faced action in a drug-selling case.

The action was carried out under the guidance of Assistant Police Inspector Sachin Jadhav. Sub-Inspector Uttareshwar Munde, and constables Bhavsingh Chavan, Narayan Paidhan, Satish Jadhav, Chhaya Landge, Deshraj More, Sartaj Pathan, Vishal Mete and Vitthal Pawar were among the team members involved in the operation.

Police are further investigating the exact source of the seized MD, who it was to be sold to, and how large the network linked to the Mumbai supplier is.
