Chandrapur police action in August: 459 arrested, crores seized, MCOCA on 3 gangs

Chandrapur police carried out a major drive in August 2026 to maintain law and order in the district. According to the office of the Superintendent of Police, strict action was taken through the month against liquor, gambling, cattle smuggling, drugs, sand theft and illegal weapons, with goods worth crores of rupees seized. The drive has shaken up the district's crime world.

During the drive, police registered 378 cases and arrested 459 accused, seizing goods worth Rs 80,68,605 in total. The largest number of cases were under the liquor prohibition law, with 355 cases yielding seizures worth Rs 50,31,130, while 5 cases of country-made liquor led to seizure of stock worth Rs 2,14,500. Raids on gambling dens in 88 cases recovered goods worth Rs 1,05,11,611.

Police also targeted those harming the environment and livestock. Action against illegal transport of cattle in 18 cases freed 179 cattle, with seizures including 31 vehicles worth a total of Rs 1,96,26,000. Action against sand smugglers in 8 cases led to seizure of goods worth Rs 1,57,81,200. In the drive against narcotics (NDPS), police made 57 seizures of drugs worth Rs 10,42,000 in total, including 20 kg 99 grams of ganja worth over Rs 10 lakh and 4 grams 650 milligrams of MD drugs worth Rs 42,650. Separately, 11 cases of banned scented tobacco led to seizure of stock worth Rs 19,86,513, and fines of Rs 1,39,400 were collected in 697 cases under the COTPA law.

To curb the fear of weapons among criminals, police carried out 9 actions under the Arms Act, seizing dangerous illegal weapons worth a total of Rs 7,98,100, including 2 country-made guns, 5 pistols, 26 live cartridges, 1 sword, 1 knife and 1 cleaver. To rein in habitual offenders, strict action was taken under MCOCA against 3 gangs, and 6 notorious criminals were externed from the district.

Traffic rule violators were also targeted for public safety. Traffic police registered cases against 22,102 drivers for violations and collected fines of Rs 1,90,89,750. These included 5,533 cases of riding without a helmet, 2,006 cases of triple-seat riding, 1,108 cases of not wearing a seatbelt, 586 cases of using mobile phones while driving, 288 cases of drunk driving and 14 cases of minors driving. This traffic enforcement drive brought down fatal accidents by 11 and reduced deaths in accidents by 22, a fall of about 9.12 percent.

Police also had major success solving serious theft cases. They solved 4 chain-snatching cases recovering goods worth Rs 1,53,000, 12 house burglary cases recovering goods worth Rs 4,84,525, and 37 theft cases recovering goods worth a total of Rs 74,29,460. The drive also recovered 10 stolen motorcycles worth Rs 3,70,000, which were returned to their owners. In addition, police traced and reunited with their relatives a total of 95 missing and abducted people, comprising 16 girls, 5 boys, 48 women and 26 men.

Based on strong evidence gathered by investigating officers and prosecution officers at the police stations, courts handed down strict sentences in August to accused in serious cases from Brahmapuri, Nagbhid and Chandrapur City police stations, drawing praise for the police's prosecution work. The police administration has said this drive against illegal activities will continue and intensify to maintain the security, peace and order of the people of Chandrapur district.
