Lions Club vaccinates 605 girl students against cervical cancer in Chandrapur
Eight Lions Clubs in Chandrapur ran an awareness drive and vaccinated 605 girl students against cervical cancer.
A major health drive has been carried out for the wellbeing of girl students in Chandrapur city. Eight Lions Clubs of the city came together to organise the programme aimed at spreading wide awareness about cervical cancer, a serious disease rapidly rising among women and girls.
As part of the drive, special awareness camps were held in 15 schools and colleges in the city on September 3. At these camps, expert doctors explained in detail to more than 3,500 girl students the causes, symptoms and prevention of cervical cancer, and the importance of timely screening.
The drive did not end with awareness alone. It was followed up with direct action on September 9, when 605 girl students were given the HPV vaccine, considered highly effective in preventing cervical cancer.
The guidance and support of CA Amit Chandak of Lions Club Nagpur Samarpan and Dr Deepika Chandok of Swasthya Vriksha Foundation were particularly valuable in making the entire drive a success.
Office-bearers and members of all the Lions Clubs of Chandrapur worked hard to see this effort through. They included PDG Dr Vilas Mule, PDG Shailesh Bagla, PST coordinator Anuradha Bagla, zone chairperson Ajay Vairagade, Vivek Bhaskarwar, Purushottam Vanjari, Manish Bhandari, Sonia Gupta, Vikas Ghate, Kush Bagla, Ashok Bang, Kavita Agrawal, Shreyansh Gupta, Sunita Jain, Dr Aarti Joshi, Dr Arun Kulkarni, advocate Vijaya Bangde, Dr Aparna Sonwalkar, Dr Nilima Mule, Dr Sandhya Kulkarni, Pallavi Bhaskarwar, Dr Kirti Sane, Shyam Dhopte, Anju Goyal, Raj Puglia, Smita Jeevatode, Abhishek Bagla, Priyanka Vanjari, Kavita Tahilyani, Laxmi Agrawal, Uma Jain, Shakuntala Agrawal, Meenakshi Jogi, Bharati Kurekar, Sarita Ghate and Khushbu Bagla. Their active cooperation helped the drive succeed. Credit for the success of the entire campaign is being given to PST coordinator Anuradha Bagla.
The social programme was attended by headmasters, principals, teachers of various schools and colleges in Chandrapur, along with several well-known people from the medical field. The Lions Club initiative for the health of girls is being widely praised.
