Chandrapur to host Dahi Handi, tug of war and fancy dress on September 12

A major cultural and sports festival will be held in Chandrapur city on September 12, with a Dahi Handi event as the main attraction. The event is being organised jointly by The Maratha Charitable Trust and the Balubhau Mitra Parivar. MP Pratibha Dhanorkar will be present. The venue is the New English School ground at Warora Naka Chowk.

The event, to be held on Saturday, September 12, 2026, has been named "Vedh Marathi Manacha, Utsav Chandrapurkaranncha". Besides the Dahi Handi, it will feature a fancy dress competition for children aged 5 to 10 and a tug of war competition for women. Winners will receive cash prizes worth lakhs of rupees.

The programme will begin at 3 pm with the women's tug of war competition, open to women above 18 years of age. The first, second and third place winners will receive cash prizes of Rs 11,000, Rs 7,000 and Rs 5,000 respectively, along with trophies. This will be followed at 5 pm by the fancy dress competition for children aged 5 to 10, themed "Great personalities of India". Winners will receive cash prizes of Rs 5,000, Rs 3,000 and Rs 2,000 respectively, along with trophies.

The biggest attraction of the festival is the Dahi Handi competition, which will begin at 7 pm and is open to all. The winning Govinda team will be honoured with a cash prize of Rs 1,51,000 and a trophy. Organisers have set certain terms and conditions for all the competitions. Registration for the fancy dress competition must be completed by 6 pm the following day, while registration for the tug of war competition requires an Aadhaar card.

The Maratha Charitable Trust and the Balubhau Mitra Parivar have appealed to people in Chandrapur city and surrounding areas to turn out in large numbers, with Govinda teams, women and children, to add to the festivities.
