Taylor broke a record held for years by master blaster Sachin Tendulkar, becoming the longest-serving player in the history of men's ODI cricket. Taylor's ODI career now spans 22 years and 148 days. The record was previously held by Sachin Tendulkar at 22 years and 91 days. Brendan Taylor has now surpassed him.

Third on the list is former Sri Lankan great Sanath Jayasuriya, whose ODI career lasted 21 years and 184 days. Pakistan's Javed Miandad is fourth on the list, with a career of 20 years and 272 days. Zimbabwe's Sean Williams also had a career of 20 years and 187 days. However, the record for the most runs in ODI matches still belongs to Tendulkar, who scored 18,426 runs in 463 matches.

Brendan Taylor, 40, made his ODI debut against Sri Lanka in April 2004. He then made his Test debut for Zimbabwe in May 2004. He is still playing for Zimbabwe today, and notably, Taylor still represents Zimbabwe in all three formats.

So far, Taylor has played 37 Test matches for Zimbabwe, scoring 2,420 runs, with six centuries and 12 half-centuries in Test cricket. He has also scored 6,704 runs in 207 ODI matches, including 11 centuries and 39 half-centuries. In 59 T20 International matches, he has scored 1,216 runs, including one century and six half-centuries.
