Liquor smuggling by car foiled in Brahmapuri, two held, one flees

The Local Crime Branch of Chandrapur district police foiled the smuggling of country liquor by car at Moje Kudesawali in Brahmapuri taluka. The liquor was being taken via Gangalwadi towards Pathari. Goods worth a total of Rs 5,60,000 were seized in the action.

Police handcuffed two people at the spot, while the main accused in the case managed to flee and is now being hunted by police.

The Local Crime Branch has been running a campaign against illegal liquor sale and smuggling in the district, under which this large-scale smuggling operation by car within the limits of Brahmapuri police station was busted. Acting on credible information, police laid a trap and searched a four-wheeler at Moje Kudesawali. During the search, 40 cases of country liquor were seized along with the car used for smuggling, taking the total value of the seized goods to Rs 5,60,000. Two smugglers were caught red-handed in the case, while a third accomplice, the main conspirator, fled.

According to information received, on September 8, 2026, the Brahmapuri sub-division team of the Local Crime Branch received a tip-off from a secret informer that a large quantity of country liquor was being transported by a four-wheeler via Gangalwadi towards Pathari. Acting immediately on the tip, police set up a checkpoint and quietly laid a trap at Kudesawali. As soon as a suspected Ford Figo car (registration number MH 31 BK 9242) was spotted, the team stopped it and searched it thoroughly. The search recovered a total of four thousand sealed bottles of 90 ml country liquor, amounting to 40 cases.

Police seized country liquor worth Rs 1,60,000 and the car used for smuggling worth Rs 4,00,000 from the spot, taking the total seized goods to Rs 5,60,000. In this illegal smuggling case, police took into custody Sunil Ramesh Narule and Vipul Tanaba Meshram, both residents of Halda in Brahmapuri taluka. However, their accomplice Harbhajan Singh Satnam Singh, also a resident of Halda in Brahmapuri taluka, fled the spot upon spotting police and is now being sought.

Following the action, a case has been registered against the accused at Brahmapuri police station under crime registration number 701/26, under sections 65(A) and 83 of the Maharashtra Prohibition Act. The successful operation was carried out by officers and personnel of the Local Crime Branch, Chandrapur, and the Brahmapuri sub-division team, causing consternation among those running illegal businesses. Teams have been dispatched to catch the fugitive accused, and police are further investigating the case.
