Pregnant woman murdered in Bihar, body set on fire, police recover remains
Police in Bihar's Masaudhi recovered remains from a burning pyre after a six-months-pregnant woman was allegedly murdered by her in-laws and her body set on fire.

A shocking case has come to light from the Masaudhi police station area of Patna, the capital of Bihar. A six-months-pregnant woman was allegedly murdered, after which her body was taken near the Dardha river flowing behind her house and burnt. After the incident, her in-laws locked up the house and fled, deepening suspicion over the matter.
On receiving information, Masaudhi police reached the spot and recovered six remains of the woman from the burning pyre. The remains have been sent to hospital for post-mortem, and police have begun an investigation.
The deceased has been identified as Mundari Devi, a resident of Oriyara village. Her brother Ajay Kumar said his sister was married on 8 June 2026 to 24-year-old Satyendra Das, a resident of Dariyapur village in the Masaudhi police station area. Satyendra Das worked as a labourer in Daman, Gujarat.
According to the family, Satyendra Das had returned home from Gujarat on the occasion of Raksha Bandhan and had brought Mundari Devi to her parents' home, where both families welcomed them with respect. However, the family alleges that after this, Mundari Devi was being harassed at her in-laws' house.
According to her brother Ajay Kumar, he received news on Tuesday that his sister's health had deteriorated. On getting this news, the family reached her in-laws' house late at night, where they found the main door locked. On questioning people in the area, they learnt that Mundari Devi had been murdered and her body was being burnt near the Dardha river behind the house. On hearing this, Ajay Kumar and the family immediately ran towards the river, where they saw Mundari Devi's pyre burning.
Ajay Kumar said the place where the body was being burnt was not a cremation ground. Despite this, the in-laws quietly cremated the body on the riverbank. On receiving information, police reached the spot and recovered a total of six remains from the burning pyre, which have been sent to hospital for post-mortem.
The deceased's brother and family allege that the in-laws together murdered the six-months-pregnant Mundari Devi and burnt the body to destroy evidence. The family also said Mundari Devi was continuously facing torment at her in-laws' house. They allege that her husband and in-laws were demanding Rs 4 lakh, and when the money was not given, they together brutally murdered her.
Police have registered a case in the matter and are questioning the family as well as people living nearby. Police say the actual cause of death will become clear only after the post-mortem report comes in.
