The 18th BRICS summit under way at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi has entered its second and final phase, bringing together leaders of major economies and developing nations under one roof. On the morning of the second day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived at Bharat Mandapam and warmly welcomed all international guests and world leaders. This was followed by a family photograph with the heads of state of all countries, after which the main session began.

On the first day of the two-day summit, India secured consensus on the New Delhi Declaration 2026 through its diplomacy. All member countries, including Russia, China, Brazil and South Africa, backed India's position that rising disputes and war-like situations around the world can only be resolved through dialogue, peaceful discussion and diplomatic means. The summit has further strengthened India's standing in global politics and its ability to lead the Global South.

Speaking as the main host of BRICS, Prime Minister Modi sent a clear message to the world. He said BRICS is not an alliance formed against any particular country or bloc, but an organisation that works to make the voice of developing nations and the Global South louder and more effective in global decisions, international institutions and economic policies.

The leaders of Russia and Iran present at the summit laid particular emphasis on alternative economic arrangements and trade in local currencies amid the current global economic situation. The meeting raised the point that developing countries should cooperate with one another and become self-reliant, regardless of economic pressure from Western nations. India's proposal for inclusive development was accepted by all.

Given the large number of VIP delegates gathering in Delhi, security arrangements on an unprecedented scale have been put in place. The entire area around Bharat Mandapam has taken on the look of a fortified zone, with the NSG, central paramilitary forces and special teams of the Delhi Police deployed round the clock.

The Delhi Traffic Police has drawn up a special plan for the safe and smooth movement of foreign guests. Traffic has been diverted at around 22 key locations in the capital, and traffic is being controlled on more than 35 major roads. This has caused some inconvenience to the public, but Delhi's residents have also cooperated to help make the summit, which is boosting India's global image, a success.

The declaration issued on the first day has left its mark on global diplomacy. It strongly demands reform of the UN Security Council. In addition, all BRICS countries unanimously signed on to a united fight against terrorism by all nations, equal WTO rules for everyone, and economic assistance to developing countries facing the climate change crisis. On the second day, leaders of BRICS countries were set to hold detailed discussions on the global economy, digital technology and energy security to bring the historic summit to a successful conclusion.
