Bail Pola 2026: farmers to honour bullocks on September 10

Bail Pola holds special importance in rural Maharashtra and among farming families. It is considered a traditional festival closely tied to agriculture and rural life. The festival is celebrated every year on Shravan Amavasya, and this year it falls on Thursday, September 10, 2026. The day is meant to express gratitude to bullocks that toil in the fields all year round.

On this day, bullocks are given rest from a year of hard labour. Farmers take special care of their animals. In the morning, the bullocks are bathed, their horns are painted, and they are decorated beautifully. Strings of bells are tied around their necks. Once the decoration is complete, the bullocks are formally worshipped and offered sweets.

Bail Pola is not just a festival for bullocks, but is seen as a symbol of the close bond between farming, farmers and livestock.
