Apple unveils first foldable iPhone Duo with 7.6-inch display, A20 Pro chip

Apple has brought a foldable smartphone to market for the first time, unveiling it at its Apple Event 2026. The device has been named iPhone Duo and is also being referred to as iPhone Ultra. Built into a compact, passport-like design, the phone is meant to make multitasking easy. It uses a strong, advanced hinge mechanism and, when fully unfolded, is the thinnest iPhone yet.

On the display front, the iPhone Duo has a 7.6-inch Super Retina XDR display on the inside and a 5.4-inch display on the outside. Both screens get ProMotion and Always-On features, and outdoor peak brightness can go up to 3,000 nits. The inner screen has a special nano-texture finish meant to reduce reflection and make the crease from folding less visible.

The body is made from premium grade 5 titanium, with Ceramic Shield protection on both sides. It carries an IP68 rating for protection against water and dust. Instead of Face ID, this model has Touch ID built into the side button. The hinge system uses more than 100 separate parts to allow smooth opening and closing.

On the camera front, it has a 48-megapixel Fusion main camera and a 48-megapixel Fusion ultra-wide camera, with sensor-shift stabilisation and 2x optical-quality zoom. It can also record 4K video at 120fps in Dolby Vision. The foldable design brings special camera features such as Duo Preview, Smart Take and Dual Capture.

For performance, the phone is powered by the advanced A20 Pro chip, built on 2nm technology, with a 6-core CPU, 7-core GPU and a dual 16-core Neural Engine. It is claimed to offer up to 35 percent better sustained performance compared to the iPhone 17 Pro. On battery life, video playback goes up to 31 hours on the larger inner screen and up to 44 hours on the outer display.

The phone will be available in Star White and Night Sky colours, and in 256GB, 512GB, 1TB and 2TB storage options. Its starting price in India has been set at Rs 2,99,900. Pre-orders will open on October 16 in India and more than 70 other countries worldwide, with sales beginning on October 23. The phone will run on the new iOS 27.1 operating system, and Apple Pencil support is expected to be added by the end of this year.
