Prime Minister Narendra Modi has completed 25 years as a head of government, and to mark the occasion the BJP is launching a nationwide "Seva Sankalp Abhiyan" (service resolution campaign). Announcing the campaign, Union Home Minister Amit Shah made a sweeping claim about Modi's political and administrative tenure.

Shah said that before 2014, the country was in the grip of corruption, casteism and nepotism. He said these three negative tendencies were curbed after Modi came to power. Shah also said India's economy is today among the fastest growing in the world and the country is moving towards becoming a developed nation.

Modi served continuously as a head of government for 25 years, first as Chief Minister of Gujarat and then as Prime Minister of the country. Amit Shah called this a major achievement, saying serving the public without a break for such a long period is no easy task.

Marking Modi's 25-year tenure, the BJP will run the Seva Sankalp Abhiyan across the country from September 17 to October 17. Shah said the party will hold 12 major programmes during this one-month period.

Shah also said Modi, by calling himself "Pradhan Sevak" (prime servant), always prioritised public service. He said Modi's working style has been influenced by the teachings of Guru Nanak as well as Samarth Ramdas Swami's philosophy of "Upbhog Shunya Swami" (a ruler free of consumption or personal gain).

According to BJP Maharashtra's official Twitter handle, the Seva Sankalp Abhiyan will include programmes such as Seva Diwas, "Mere Sapno Ka Bharat Chitra" (a painting of my dream India), "Namo Seva Ki Ansuni Baatein" (untold stories of Namo Seva), musical theatre performances in local languages, "Angan Milan Seva", "Seva Ki Kahani", the "Seva Jyoti Kalash Yatra" and a "Vadnagar se Varanasi Seva" programme.

Amit Shah also referred to economic and social changes during the Modi government. According to his claim, 250 million people in the country have risen above the poverty line, and India's development has gained pace in a new direction.

Shah further said Modi's leadership has raised India's standing internationally and increased the value of the Indian passport. He said it was in this context, reviewing Modi's 25-year tenure, that the BJP will run various service programmes for a month.
