Mandhana needs just 69 runs for T20I world record in Asia Cup semifinal

India opener Smriti Mandhana has a chance to create history in the Women's Asia Cup 2026 semifinal. If she scores 69 runs against Bangladesh, she will become the leading run-scorer in women's T20 international cricket.
Mandhana currently stands second on that list. She has scored 4,690 runs in 174 matches at an average of 30.65, including two centuries and 35 half-centuries, along with 634 fours and 95 sixes.
The record for most runs in women's T20 internationals is currently held by New Zealand's veteran batter Suzie Bates, who has scored 4,758 runs in 186 matches. Mandhana is just 69 runs away from breaking that record. India captain Harmanpreet Kaur is third with 4,249 runs, Sri Lanka's Chamari Athapaththu is fourth with 4,095 runs, and New Zealand's Sophie Devine is fifth with 3,817 runs.
Mandhana is in fine form in this year's Asia Cup as well, and is the tournament's leading run-scorer with 152 runs in three matches. Against Hong Kong China, she played a blistering innings of 124 runs off just 64 balls, hitting 14 fours and seven sixes.
India's record against Bangladesh has been strong. Of the 24 T20 matches played between the two sides, India have won 21 while Bangladesh have won just three. India have won eight consecutive T20 matches against Bangladesh since September 2023.
India will take the field aiming for a record eighth Asia Cup title. Fans will be watching not just for a win for the team, but also for Mandhana's shot at the historic record that could take her to the top of the women's T20 batting charts.
