Externed man ran illegal liquor sale from home, Nagpur police seize Rs 18,370 worth

The Escort Squad of the Nagpur Police Commissionerate has seized country-made and illegal liquor worth Rs 18,370 from the home of an externed accused. The house is in the Yashodhara Nagar Chowk area.

According to police, the accused had been externed from Nagpur city for some time as a precaution to maintain law and order during Ganeshotsav and Navratri. But despite the externment order, he was found at his own home and was running an illegal liquor sale business from there.

The matter came to light on Thursday night when the Escort Squad received information that a man named Babulal Govindrao Hume was selling handmade illegal liquor and country liquor from his home.

After verifying the information, the Escort Squad, along with staff from Yashodhara Nagar police station, searched the accused's house in the presence of two panch witnesses.

During the search, police found handmade illegal liquor worth about Rs 12,000. They also recovered 54 bottles of 90 ml country liquor valued at Rs 2,160. Police also seized Rs 4,210 in cash from the accused. The total value of the seized goods is Rs 18,370.

Police said Hume has previously been involved in liquor sale cases. He had been externed from Nagpur city for some time under Section 163(2) of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) to maintain law and order during Ganeshotsav and Navratri. Despite this, he was found at his own home in the city and was caught during the police action.

A case has been registered against the accused at Yashodhara Nagar police station under Section 223 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Section 65(E) of the Maharashtra Prohibition Act.

The action was carried out by Escort Squad chief Assistant Police Inspector Bhagwan Koli and his team under the guidance of Nagpur Police Commissioner Vishwas Nangare Patil.
