Nagpur's Panchpavli-Dighori flyover opens to public this evening
Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Union minister Nitin Gadkari will inaugurate the flyover before it opens to traffic at 4.30 pm on Saturday.
The long-awaited Panchpavli-Dighori flyover in Nagpur is ready for the public. It will be opened for traffic at 4.30 pm on Saturday, with the inauguration held in the presence of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Union minister Nitin Gadkari.
A trial run of the flyover was conducted on the night of September 14 and was successful. Preparations to open it to regular traffic were completed only after the trial succeeded. Traffic arrangements on this key route are expected to change after the inauguration.
The flyover runs from Indora Chowk to Dighori Chowk on NH-353D. The route passes through a densely populated urban area with numerous shops, markets and commercial establishments, which keeps traffic pressure high at all times. The stretch sees heavy movement of small cars, two-wheelers, autos, commercial vehicles and pedestrians. It also has 3 major and 11 minor junctions, which often cause jams and accidents. A railway crossing on the route also affects traffic flow.
The total length of the project is 8.90 kilometres, of which the flyover itself is 6.37 kilometres, while the service roads and slip roads together add up to 13.82 kilometres. The approved cost of the entire project is Rs 1,998.27 crore, of which Rs 684.88 crore has been spent on civil construction. Work began on July 1, 2023, and the deadline set for completion was June 30, 2026.
The opening of the flyover is expected to ease commuting for local residents. It will separate traffic headed towards Bhandara and Umred from local traffic, allowing both to move more smoothly. The aim is to reduce congestion on this busy road and distribute traffic better. The real benefit will be visible only once actual traffic begins using it after the inauguration.
