MSRTC lets NCMC cardholders top up via BHIM app
MSRTC has enabled NCMC card top-ups through the BHIM app, sparing passengers a trip to a recharge counter.
The Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) has launched a new digital facility for its NCMC cardholders. Passengers will now be able to top up their NCMC cards using the BHIM app. This means that once the balance on the card runs out, passengers will not need to visit a recharge centre and can add money from their mobile phones instead. MSRTC introduced the facility for passenger convenience, so that passengers do not have to stand in queues to recharge their cards.
According to information provided by MSRTC, the facility to top up NCMC cards through the BHIM app has been available since September 15, 2026. Registration and distribution of cards under the NCMC card project is currently under way for Amrit senior citizen, senior citizen and women concession category passengers. To make the card easier to use, the top-up facility has been linked to the BHIM app, allowing passengers to add money to the card as needed. Since card registration and distribution for these three categories is still ongoing, this facility is expected to be particularly useful at this stage.
The top-up process has been kept simple. First, passengers need to open the BHIM app on their mobile phone. Then they must scan the QR code on the back of the NCMC card using the BHIM app. Once the QR code is scanned, passengers can complete the top-up by selecting the required amount as per the steps shown in the app. This removes the need to visit a centre in person every time the card needs to be recharged. The entire process can be completed on the mobile phone within a few minutes, saving passengers time.
The NCMC card project covers Amrit senior citizen, senior citizen and women concession category passengers. The online top-up facility is expected to be especially useful for these passengers, who travel regularly on MSRTC buses. Since the top-up can now be done from a mobile phone whenever the card balance runs low, it is expected to save time. As passengers in these categories often travel daily or frequently, the facility is considered particularly beneficial for them.
MSRTC has been implementing various measures to make passenger services more digital and convenient. The facility to top up NCMC cards through the BHIM app is part of this effort. It is seen as an important step towards the goal of providing passengers with digital facilities and a smoother, faster travel experience. MSRTC's efforts are expected to result in more digital and streamlined services for passengers going forward.
