Beed-Pune train service launched, Sunetra Pawar says Ajit Pawar's promise fulfilled
Deputy CM Sunetra Pawar flagged off the first direct Beed-Pune train, fulfilling a promise Ajit Pawar made last year.
It was a special day for the people of Beed district in Marathwada as the Beed-Pune railway service was launched. State Deputy Chief Minister and Beed's guardian minister Sunetra Pawar flagged off the train, which then departed from Beed station towards Pune.
The first train from Beed to Pune ran on the occasion of Marathwada Liberation Day, generating considerable enthusiasm among people in Beed. The district's railway connectivity had earlier taken shape with the launch of the Beed-Ahilyanagar railway, and a direct link to Pune now marks another important milestone in that journey.
Speaking on the occasion, Sunetra Pawar recalled the district's railway history. She said the Beed-Ahilyanagar railway had begun on 17 September 2025, and at that time Ajit Pawar had said that people would be able to travel directly from Beed to Pune the following year. She referred to this and said the milestone was achieved because of Ajit Pawar's vision and funds secured from the government. "I have had the good fortune of fulfilling the promise Ajitdada made to the people of Beed," she said, crediting Ajit Pawar's contribution to the project.
Improved rail connectivity with Pune and western Maharashtra is expected to benefit Beed's business community. The service is expected to be important not only for passengers but also for those travelling to Pune for business, education and employment.
Stating that Beed's development and connectivity remained her objective, Sunetra Pawar assured that efforts for further railway facilities would continue.
Referring to demands raised by MP Bajrang Sonawane, Sunetra Pawar said efforts would also be made for a direct railway service from Beed to Panvel. She assured officials would be asked to work on this and appealed for joint efforts towards the development of Beed and the wider Marathwada region.
Following the launch of the Beed-Pune railway service, attention in Beed has now turned to the demand for Beed-Panvel connectivity.
