Team India named for West Indies series, Rohit and Kohli return
Shubman Gill will captain the ODI side as Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli return, with the T20 series to follow.
The Indian team for the ODI and T20 series against West Indies was announced late on Wednesday, September 16. Senior players Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli will feature in the home ODI series, while the T20 squad also sees some changes.
Shubman Gill will captain the ODI team, with KL Rahul named vice-captain and wicketkeeper. The return of experienced players like Rohit and Kohli strengthens the top order. Young players such as Yashasvi Jaiswal, Ruturaj Gaikwad and Dhruv Jurel have also been included, giving the batting lineup balance.
The all-rounder and bowling departments feature a mix of experience and new faces. Ravindra Jadeja, Nitish Kumar Reddy and Naman Dhir have been included as all-rounders. Kuldeep Yadav will lead the spin attack, while Mohammed Siraj will head the pace attack. Prasidh Krishna, Gurnoor Brar and Aaqib Nabi will also get a chance to make their mark among the fast bowlers.
For the T20 series, Shreyas Iyer and Tilak Varma have been retained as the opening pair. The T20 squad includes aggressive batters such as Vaibhav Suryavanshi, Abhishek Sharma, Ishan Kishan and Sanju Samson. Explosive all-rounders Shivam Dube and Nitish Kumar Reddy will strengthen the middle order and finishing roles.
The first ODI will be played in Thiruvananthapuram on September 27 from 2 pm. The second ODI is in Guwahati on September 30 and the third in New Chandigarh on October 3, both starting at 2 pm. The T20 series begins in Lucknow on October 6 at 7 pm, followed by matches in Ranchi on October 9, Indore on October 11, Hyderabad on October 14 and Bengaluru on October 16, all at 7 pm.
