Nagpur pensioner loses Rs 5.50 lakh in fake pension card cyber fraud
A 60-year-old retired irrigation department employee in Nagpur lost Rs 5.50 lakh after downloading a fake pension card app sent by cyber fraudsters.
Nagpur: Cyber fraudsters are targeting retired citizens in the name of making pension cards. A 60-year-old man from Ajni, a retired employee of the irrigation department residing at Impress Mill Society in Shrinagar, received a call on his mobile number on September 16 from a person claiming to be associated with the pension card process, who asked whether his pension card had been made.
The complainant said his pension card had not been made. The accused then sent him an APK file and asked him to download it and enter his details. The complainant downloaded the file, after which his mobile phone was hacked.
The mobile phone was linked to the complainant's bank account. As soon as the phone was hacked, Rs 5.50 lakh was siphoned off from his account. On his complaint, Ajni police have registered a case of fraud under the IT Act.
