Parivartini Ekadashi on September 22: rituals believed to bring prosperity

Every Ekadashi holds significance in Hinduism, but Parivartini Ekadashi, which falls in the Shukla Paksha of the Bhadrapada month, is considered special for the worship and fasting rituals dedicated to Lord Vishnu. Also known as Parshva Ekadashi, the fast will be observed this year on Tuesday, September 22. Devotees perform worship and religious rituals with full devotion on this day.

According to religious belief, worshipping Lord Vishnu's Vamana form and performing certain rituals on Parivartini Ekadashi brings happiness, peace and prosperity into life. It is said that some of the rituals performed on this day bring financial benefit and positivity into the home.

As for the date and auspicious timing, the Ekadashi tithi will begin at 8:01 pm on September 21 and end at 9:44 pm on September 22. The Parana, or the time to break the fast, will be from 6:09 am to 8:35 am on September 23.

It is believed that on this day, Lord Vishnu, resting in the Kshirsagar, turns from one side to the other, which is why this Ekadashi is called Parivartini. On this day, Lord Vishnu's Vamana form is worshipped, which blesses devotees with wisdom and detachment. It is said that observing this fast brings merit equal to performing the Vajpeyi Yagna and destroys all sins committed knowingly or unknowingly, ultimately leading to salvation. The fast and worship bring wealth, health and positivity into the home.

Methods of worship have also been prescribed. After bathing in the morning, worship the Tulsi plant and circumambulate it while chanting the mantra "Om Namo Bhagavate Vasudevaya", which is said to remove obstacles in work. Lord Vishnu is fond of the colour yellow, so on this day, donate yellow clothes, yellow lentils or items made of gram flour to someone in need.

During the worship, offer turmeric knots to Lord Vishnu and Goddess Lakshmi, and after the worship, tie this turmeric in a yellow cloth and keep it in the safe, which is said to bring financial benefit. Feed the cow barley or wheat bread with jaggery or sweetened curd, which is believed to appease the curse of ancestors and bring prosperity to the home.

In the evening of Ekadashi, pour water on the peepal tree and light a ghee lamp, which is said to strengthen financial condition. In the evening, burn camphor and perform Lord Vishnu's aarti, which is believed to remove negative energy from the home and increase positivity.
