Nagpur's exports crossed Rs 7,565 crore in April-June, with the US the top buyer, led by pharma shipments
Nagpur is no longer known only for oranges and farm produce. The city has carved out a name for itself in exports of pharmaceuticals, aircraft instruments and parts, automobiles, chemicals, electrical equipment and plastic goods.
Figures for the first quarter of financial year 2026-27, April to June 2026, show that Nagpur's trade is now spreading across the world. During this period, the district exported goods worth a total of Rs 7,565.83 crore. The biggest buyer was the United States, whose dominance is especially clear in the case of medicines.
In the first quarter, Nagpur exported pharma products worth Rs 3,325.39 crore. Of this, goods worth Rs 2,966 crore went to the US alone, meaning about 89 percent of total pharma exports went to the US.
The role of the US was not limited to medicines. Aircraft, spacecraft and their parts worth Rs 45 crore were exported to the US. Road vehicles and their parts accounted for Rs 37 crore, nuclear reactors, boilers, machinery and mechanical appliances for Rs 18 crore, and plastic goods for Rs 14 crore. Adding up these figures, the US alone received more than Rs 3,080 crore worth of goods in these major categories, about 41 percent of the district's total exports of Rs 7,565.83 crore.
Pharma tops Nagpur's list of top 10 export products. The figure of Rs 3,325.39 crore is several times higher than the second-placed category of explosives, matches and certain combustible preparations, worth Rs 951.11 crore. This was followed by cereal exports worth Rs 681.47 crore, iron and steel products worth Rs 304.29 crore, aircraft-spacecraft and parts worth Rs 247.70 crore, and road vehicles and parts worth Rs 240.31 crore.
Nagpur's exports are not confined to the US. In pharma products, Poland received goods worth Rs 74 crore and Tanzania Rs 49 crore. In explosives and related products, Spain was a major buyer at Rs 170 crore, followed by South Africa at Rs 159 crore and Slovenia at Rs 104 crore. In cereals, Benin led with Rs 163 crore, followed by Togo at Rs 79 crore and Russia at Rs 47 crore. In iron and steel products, Saudi Arabia was the biggest market at Rs 54 crore, followed by the Philippines at Rs 52 crore and the US at Rs 34 crore.
The figures also show that Nagpur's export economy is gradually becoming more diverse. Besides pharma, the top 10 includes organic chemicals worth Rs 167.89 crore, nuclear reactors and machinery worth Rs 164.60 crore, electrical machinery and equipment worth Rs 161.71 crore, and plastics worth Rs 156.67 crore.
