Two killed as speeding vehicle hits parked car on Nagbhid-Brahmapuri highway
A hit-and-run driver slammed into a parked car near Korda village, killing the driver and a 12-year-old girl and injuring six others.
A car parked on the side of the Nagbhid-Brahmapuri highway near Korda village was hit from behind by an unidentified speeding vehicle on Saturday night, killing the driver and a 12-year-old girl. Six other people were injured.
The driver of the vehicle that caused the crash fled the scene afterward. Nagbhid police have registered a case against the unidentified driver under various sections.
According to a complaint filed at the sub-district hospital in Brahmapuri, Himesh Bandu Bedre (41), a resident of Virli in Lakhandur taluka, Bhandara district, had gone to Ballarshah on Saturday morning with his wife Maithula Bedre (35), son Shaurya Bedre (10) and daughter Shravani Bedre (12) to meet relatives, along with his relatives Nitin Vinayak Bharre (32), Vaishnavi Nitin Bharre (25), Aarohi Nitin Bharre and one-year-old Nitya Nitin Bharre, all residents of Bodegaon in Brahmapuri taluka. After the visit, the group set out around 5 pm to return to Bodegaon in Himesh Bedre's Maruti Suzuki Estilo car (registration number MH 31 CD 9189).
Between 8:30 and 9 pm they stopped to eat at Bhotmange dhaba on the Nagbhid-Brahmapuri road, then set off again around 10:15 pm, with Nitin Bharre driving. A short distance past Korda village, Nitin stopped the car in a spot he considered safe on the left side of the highway to splash water on his face to stay awake. An unidentified vehicle, coming from behind at high speed and driving carelessly, then slammed into the parked car. The impact was so severe that the car was flung off the road and overturned.
Passersby and people from the area rushed to the spot, pulled all those trapped in the car out and had them taken by ambulance to the government hospital in Brahmapuri for treatment. The car's driver, Nitin Vinayak Bharre, and 12-year-old Shravani Himesh Bedre, both critically injured, were taken to the government hospital in Nagbhid, where doctors declared them dead after examination. The remaining five injured, including Himesh Bedre, are being treated in hospital.
On Himesh Bedre's complaint, Nagbhid police have registered a case against the unidentified driver under sections 106(1) (causing death by negligence), 281 (rash driving), 125(a) and 125(b) (causing grievous hurt) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, and sections 184, 134 and 187 of the Motor Vehicles Act. Under the supervision of station in-charge Ramakant Kokate, sub-inspector Anil Velhal Dongarwar is investigating further and searching for the driver who fled.
