Tata Motors, long the number one player in the sub-4 metre compact SUV segment, is preparing to launch its most popular car, the Nexon, with a major upgrade. The Tata Punch received a midlife update this year, while the 2027 Tata Nexon will arrive with a full generation change.

The upcoming Nexon is currently undergoing testing, and spy images that have surfaced show a new design, an upgraded interior and the latest technology.

The biggest highlight of the new Nexon will be its new ATLAS platform, short for Adaptive Tech-Forward Lifestyle Architecture. The Tata Curvv SUV was also recently built on this platform. ATLAS is a scalable platform that supports different body styles, multiple powertrain options and upcoming technology such as cloud connectivity. Because of this new architecture, the 2027 Nexon is likely to get premium features such as a new touchscreen infotainment system with an updated user interface, a fresh cabin theme, powered and ventilated front seats, and a panoramic sunroof.

According to spy images from testing, the 2027 Tata Nexon will retain its basic silhouette, dual-tone alloy wheels, sloping roofline and outside rear view mirrors (ORVMs). The side profile of the upcoming Nexon may see some changes, including a sharper A-pillar, new rear doors and a new spoiler. The new-generation model of this top-selling SUV will get redesigned LED tail lamps, an improved tailgate and a new bumper, giving it a more muscular and modern look on the road. In terms of size, the car will stay within the existing 3.99 metre limit.

On the engine front, the 2027 Tata Nexon is expected to retain the current 1.2 litre turbo petrol and 1.5 litre turbo diesel engines, along with the same transmission options as the older model. A CNG version with an underbody CNG tank will also be available, offering an ARAI-certified mileage of up to 24 km per kg.

The car will be launched to strengthen Tata Motors' top position in the sub-4 metre compact SUV segment in the Indian market. In this segment, the Nexon competes directly with the Maruti Suzuki Brezza, Hyundai Venue, Kia Sonet, Mahindra XUV 3XO, Skoda Kylaq, Nissan Magnite and Renault Kiger. In terms of expected pricing, the new-generation Tata Nexon could be launched with a starting price ranging from Rs 8 lakh to Rs 15 lakh.
