Muggy heat grips Maharashtra: Nagpur hits 33 degrees, Mumbai 29
Nagpur and Mumbai both recorded high humidity along with warm temperatures on September 17.
Maharashtra's two big cities, Nagpur and Mumbai, dealt with heat as well as bothersome humidity on September 17. Nagpur's maximum temperature reached 33 degrees Celsius, while Mumbai's hovered around 29 degrees Celsius. High humidity levels in both cities left people facing sticky heat.
In Nagpur, the morning temperature was recorded at 26 degrees Celsius. As the day progressed, it climbed to 33 degrees, while the minimum temperature is expected to stay around 26 degrees Celsius. The sun rose in the city at 5:41 am and set at 5:59 pm. Humidity was recorded at up to 92 percent, while atmospheric pressure stood at around 1007. No major change is expected in Nagpur's temperature in the coming days. The forecast for the next six days shows the mercury hovering between around 33, 34, 33, 34, 34 and 34 degrees Celsius.
On air quality, Nagpur recorded an Air Quality Index (AQI) of 65 on September 17, which falls in the moderate category. PM 2.5 levels stood at 36 and PM 10 at 65. Doctors advise that in such moderately polluted conditions, people with breathing difficulties should avoid staying outdoors for long and take some precautions when stepping out.
Turning to Mumbai, the temperature was recorded at 27 degrees Celsius on September 17. According to the weather department, the city's maximum temperature is expected to be around 29 degrees and the minimum around 26 degrees Celsius. The sun rose in Mumbai at 6:26 am and set at 6:40 pm. Humidity stood at 89 percent, while air pressure was measured at around 1010. Over the next six days, Mumbai's temperature could gradually rise, with forecasts putting it at around 29, 29, 30, 31, 31 and 31 degrees Celsius, meaning the heat and humidity are not set to ease yet.
Mumbai's AQI was recorded at 54, which also falls in the moderate category. PM 2.5 levels stood at just 5, while PM 10 was recorded at 33. Even though the air quality is moderate, people with asthma, allergies or other breathing-related trouble have been advised to be careful when stepping outside. Wearing a mask when needed and avoiding long stays in polluted areas would be advisable.
