Monsoon revives in Maharashtra, yellow-orange alert for 24 districts today
The weather department has issued alerts across Konkan, north Maharashtra, western Maharashtra, Marathwada and Vidarbha as the monsoon picks up in its final phase.
Weather conditions in Maharashtra are changing again as the monsoon enters its final phase. Rainfall has not been uniformly good across the state so far, but several areas are expected to see heavier rain over the coming days. The weather department has issued a yellow alert for 24 districts, with light to moderate rain expected in some places and heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorms in others.
In Konkan, Raigad, Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg districts have been placed under a yellow alert, with winds of 30 to 40 kilometres per hour likely along with light to moderate rain and heavy rain in some spots. Mumbai, Thane and Palghar have no alert at present, but light to moderate rain is expected to continue there as well.
In north Maharashtra, Dhule, Nandurbar and Jalgaon districts have not been placed under any alert yet, though light to moderate rain is possible. The ghat areas of Nashik are expected to see more active weather, with winds of 30 to 40 kilometres per hour and heavy rain in some places.
In western Maharashtra, Ahilyanagar, Pune, Pune ghat areas, Kolhapur, Kolhapur ghat areas, Satara, Sangli and Solapur have been placed under a yellow alert. Winds of 40 to 50 kilometres per hour are possible in some areas, along with thunder, lightning and stormy rain, and heavy showers in parts amid light to moderate rain elsewhere.
In Marathwada, Parbhani, Beed, Hingoli, Nanded, Latur and Dharashiv districts have been placed under a yellow alert, with winds of 30 to 40 kilometres per hour and heavy rain with storms possible in some places. Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar and Jalna districts have no alert, but light to moderate rain is expected.
An alert has also been issued for Vidarbha. Amravati, Bhandara, Chandrapur, Gadchiroli, Gondia, Nagpur, Wardha and Yavatmal districts have been placed under a yellow alert, with winds of 40 to 50 kilometres per hour, thunder and lightning, and stormy rain likely, with heavy rain in some places.
Overall, the state's weather appears to be turning active again in the final phase of the monsoon. Rain is expected to intensify in several areas over the next two to three days, while changeable weather may persist in Marathwada for three to four more days. Since rainfall has not been sufficient everywhere in the state so far, farmers and residents are watching closely to see how much rain actually falls.
