AIIMS Delhi charges just Rs 5,856 for all 5 years of MBBS
AIIMS Delhi, the country's top-ranked medical institute, charges just Rs 5,856 for the full 5-year MBBS course, far below private college fees.
Studying MBBS in India is usually considered very expensive. In private medical colleges, a single year's fee can run to Rs 10 lakh to Rs 20 lakh, which often leaves the dream of becoming a doctor unfulfilled for children from middle class and poor families.
But there is a medical college in the country where, despite offering top quality education, the entire fee for the 5-year MBBS course is only Rs 5,856. That works out to less than Rs 100 a month. This is none other than AIIMS Delhi, the country's largest medical institution.
AIIMS Delhi is counted among the best medical institutions not just in India but in Asia. It has consistently topped the NIRF Ranking.
Looking at the full fee break-up, the total fee for the 5-year MBBS course is just Rs 5,856. Of this, the tuition fee for the entire course is around Rs 1,350. Hostel and mess facilities are also available at very low cost.
Apart from AIIMS, fees are also quite low at JIPMER Puducherry and other state government medical colleges, but AIIMS Delhi's fee is the lowest of all.
The question now is how one gets admission to AIIMS. Admission here is considered as difficult as it is rewarding. Candidates must first clear NEET UG, the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test.
After that, a top rank is needed. Generally, only toppers who score more than 700 marks and have an All India Rank (AIR) between 1 and 50 get an MBBS seat at AIIMS Delhi.
Despite the low fee, the standard of education here is excellent. Students get world class labs, professors of international standing, and extensive hands-on experience treating patients.
