Ayurved Gurukulam colleges will be started across the country by the Ministry of Ayush to promote Ayurveda education, research and quality testing of medicines. The announcement was made by Union Minister of State for Ayush and Health and Family Welfare (Independent Charge) Prataprao Jadhav in Buldhana on Thursday. He also said drug testing laboratory (DTL) facilities would be developed at eight peripheral institutes of the Central Council for Research in Ayurvedic Sciences.

Jadhav was speaking at an event held at the District Women's Hospital under the "Seva Sankalp Abhiyan" marking 25 years of continuous development work, organised on Prime Minister Narendra Modi's birthday. The event was attended by MLA Sanjay Gaikwad, municipal council president Pooja Gaikwad, District Collector Dr Praveenkumar Deore, Zilla Parishad CEO Gulab Kharat, Dean of Rajmata Jijau Government Medical College Dr Kailas Zine, District Surgeon Dr Dattatreya Birajdar, District Health Officer Ranjit Mandale, and Superintendent of the District Women's Hospital Dr Prashant Patil.

Jadhav said the central and state governments are focused on providing integrated health services by combining modern medical treatment with Ayurveda, yoga and traditional healing methods to keep people healthy. He said timely detection of illness makes treatment more effective, which is why preventive healthcare is being given special emphasis. According to Jadhav, Ayurveda and yoga are gaining recognition worldwide, with several countries seeking information and training on them. Towards this end, Ayushman Arogya Mandir centres and various Ayush department services have been launched across the country.

He said efforts are underway to build Ayurveda education and research facilities in different parts of the country on the lines of the All India Institute of Ayurveda in Delhi. June 21 is observed as International Yoga Day and September 23 as Ayurveda Day. Jadhav said Buldhana's Rajmata Jijau Government Medical College has given district residents access to better health facilities, and students trained there will go on to provide the state's health system with a large trained workforce. MLA Sanjay Gaikwad spoke about the medical and education facilities available in Buldhana.

Rajmata Jijau Government Medical College provides medical education opportunities to 100 students every year. The agriculture college has capacity for 60 students, and BSc Nursing and other modern degree courses will give a boost to the health education sector. Jadhav said efforts are being pursued to set up an Ayurveda college so that people can benefit jointly from Ayurveda, Unani, Homoeopathy, yoga and naturopathy systems. Efforts are also under way to develop advanced medical facilities such as bypass surgery, angioplasty, critical care and neurosurgery in the district.

As part of the Seva Sankalp Abhiyan, Union Minister of State Prataprao Jadhav performed the foundation-laying ceremony for a 50-bed Ayush hospital at the District Women's Hospital premises. The hospital will give poor and needy people in the district another healthcare option through Ayush treatment methods.

The Ministry of Ayush will launch the Ayurved Gurukulam college across the country on the occasion of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's birthday. Ayurved Gurukulam will be a residential Ayurveda institution offering a two-year pre-Ayurveda programme followed by a seven-and-a-half-year BAMS degree course, with Sanskrit as the medium of instruction.
